Great job! Clearly explains in detail how a proper roof job should be done. Handling it with the details in mind to prevent sloppy work.

As for the unqualified Roofing contractor you mentioned:

"The roof was installed by an unqualified roofing contractor that apperanly never installed a rubber roof before, nor did the contractor care about quality at all, which you can judge for yourself from the photographs of the roof that we’ve provided"

This is one problem that some home owners could easily prevent from the start if they only take the time to ask some questions. One that comes in mind is to ask contractors how long they've been in business and to ask for customer feedback.

Most contractors have the attitude to exaggerate their length of service and their customer base, so also make sure to let them know you'll verify.

Thanks and keep up the good work :)

I'm honestly not sure what you mean when you mention underlayment. Rubber roof as well as other single ply membranes are just that - single ply, meaning there is no other "component" of the roof systems to create second layer. There is usually insulation or a slip-sheet to separate the membrane from the substrate.

As far as covering the roof overnight - you are completely right. Yet, sometimes there is no other option but tarps. It all of course depends on the roof and the crew installing it.

Thanks for the images and article. It is informative.Rubber roofing often needs an underlayment when it's installed. But roofers need to make sure they can get the new membrane roofing underlayment installed before they leave the jobsite for the day. Covering the unfinished work with a tarp is dangerous as the tarp can blow off in an overnight rainstorm.I am very thankful to you for giving me this information .
