Green Building and Construction Directory
Lists green architects, builders, green building components and construction methods. Products include SIP’s or structural insulated panel manufacturers, high R-value super insulation in walls, roof and the basement / footing, special high-efficiency thermal mass windows, solar thermal collectors, integrated solar roofing systems, and other solar home elements.
The ultimate goal of a green home design is to create zero-energy home: a house that produces 100%, or more energy than it uses, and is thus, completely independent of exterior sources of energy, such as grid electricity, oil or natural gas.
Creation of such buildings is practical and economical, using today’s technology and widely available green building materials. But, doing this right does require thorough planning and close integration of various energy conservation with renewable energy generation systems to supply the house with electricity, heat and hot water.
Additionally, a rain water collection system for grass irrigation and other household water needs is also preferable option to make a zero-energy home ever more greener.
Read our blog on some of the green building ideas and practices that we have included in our Solar Home Design project, which is open to participation by anyone who is interested and can submit some efficient green building ideas to make this project more efficient and less expensive.

I have always been a tinkerer from childhood and we were made aware of our environment from early on. When I would go fishing with family we were taught to take only what we needed. When my heating bills became invasive to my budget, I built several small solar-air units that enabled me to lower the heating costs substantially. With a combination of solar and radiant energy technologies I am able to reduce my total energy costs…for a fraction of my monthly costs.
